Napoli icon Diego Maradona has left Mexican club Dorados after almost a year in charge.

Several Italian outlets, including Calciomercato.com and Sky Sport Italia, claim Maradona stepped down for medical reasons.

That would be because the 58-year-old is about to have shoulder and knee surgery, just months after he was admitted to hospital with gastric bleeding.

"Together we’ve surprised the world. We’ve shown that football is about passion and heart,” Dorados tweeted.

The Argentine joined the second-tier side last September and took them to the cusp of promotion to Liga MX.
