Genoa have officially hired former Empoli boss Aurelio Andreazzoli as their new Coach.

A statement on Genoa’s official website reads Andreazzoli will formally take charge on July 1 and has signed a contract for two seasons.

His arrival marks the end of Cesare Prandelli’s tenure, who kept the Grifone up but only by the virtue of a superior head-to-head with Empoli.

The 65-year-old was assistant to succession of Roma Coaches between 2005 and 2017, before guiding the Giallorossi to the Coppa Italia Final during a stint as caretaker in 2013.

He went on to lead Empoli into Serie A last year and returned in December, winning five of his 11 games back at the helm.

Although the Azzurri failed to stay up, they were praised for their attractive style of play.
