Fiorentina have confirmed that Vincenzo Montella will remain their Coach next season.

Montella only returned to Fiorentina in April, but his position already seemed to be at risk after he failed to win any of his eight games, while the Della Valle family – who brought him back – sold the club to Rocco Commisso.

However, the former Milan boss met Commisso on Friday and will now stay on.

“I met Vincenzo this afternoon and he made an excellent impression on me,” the Italo-American told the Viola’s official website.

“He was full of enthusiasm and desire to start working straight away. Unfortunately, things didn’t go well at the end of last season for a number of reasons.

“Much of this wasn’t dependent on him as the players played with a certain degree of fear.

“I remember Montella’s Fiorentina during his first spell in Viola perfectly. They were called Fiorentina-Olè and played some of the most spectacular football, not only in Italy but also in Europe.

“With the announcements of sporting director Prade and Mr Montella in just a few days, we’ve finalised both our sporting and technical management well ahead of my initial expectations and in record time.

“Moreover, we’re continuing to work hard on all other fronts in order to be ready for the start of the new season and certainly before the opening of the transfer market on July 1.”

Reflecting on the club’s renewed faith in him, ‘Aeroplanino’ added: “I’m very happy. I met Rocco Commisso for the first time in person and his enthusiasm exceeded all my expectations.

“He conveys a lot of positivity and I’m sure this feeling will spread through to everyone, the team and the fans.

“I’m very happy to work alongside sporting director Daniele Prade again. In the past we worked hard together and in great synergy, picking up some very good results.

“Now I can’t wait to not only start the season but also get to work and try to give the new owners and Florence the satisfaction they deserve.”

The pair will give an exclusive interview to Sky Sport Italia at 22:25 BST this evening, live from Times Square in New York City.
