Javier Pastore concedes his debut Roma season did not go as expected, but insists he has “no reason to leave. I want to prove what I can do.”
Il Flaco was a major purchase from Paris Saint-Germain last summer at a cost of €24.7m, but managed only 17 competitive appearances with four goals and an assist.
“It was a bit of a strange year,” he confessed to Argentine site Mundodad Lavoz.
“I came to Roma in order to play regularly and be indispensable to the team, but for various reasons, it didn’t turn out that way. I wasn’t consistent, but I don’t think it was that negative either.
“The important thing is that now I feel in good shape and it showed when I scored several goals towards the end of the season. I am very happy and the most important thing is that I’ve broken that vicious circle of the muscular injuries.
“I’ll start pre-season with much higher objectives and ensure it is more competitive than the campaign that just concluded.”
Pastore is focusing on fitness and conditioning above all, hiring a physiotherapist to work with him during the summer vacation.
“I have a contract for several more years, so I see no reason to leave. As last season wasn’t so good, I would love to have a great campaign and really show what I can do here. I want the Roma fans to know what I’m capable of.”
