The 63-year-old was UEFA President between 2007 and 2015 but was forced to step down after he was banned from all football-related activities by the FIFA Ethics Committee.

The decision to give Qatar hosting duties for the next World Cup has been marred by controversy over the country’s human-rights record, stance on homosexuality and the integrity of its bid.

Platini is considered one of Juve’s all-time greats, with 103 goals in 222 appearances for the Bianconeri, winning two Scudetti and a European Cup.

The Frenchman previously admitted to holding a secret meeting with disgraced official Mohamed bin Hammam shortly before casting his vote for Qatar.

He also revealed last year how he used ‘a little trickery’ to ensure France did not meet Brazil until the Final of the 1998 World Cup.
