Rolando Mandragora missed a sitter in Italy’s 1-0 European U21 Championship defeat to Poland. “Now we need to hope for the best.”

The Azzurrini had 31 attempts on goal and 64 per cent possession, but still lost 1-0 and their qualification for the semi-finals is now seriously in doubt.

“I had a chance and it didn’t go the way we wanted. It’s disappointing, now we need a great result and hope for the best,” the Udinese midfielder told Rai Sport.

“Unfortunately, we were a bit too hasty and chaotic. We also hit the woodwork, but it can’t just be bad luck. We are aware there’s something that needs improving and we’ll work on it.”

Italy have three points after two games, just like Spain, while Poland are top of the group with six.
