Italy’s 1-0 defeat to Poland on Wednesday means they must beat Belgium and hope for the best from Spain, potentially having to wait until Monday, if they are to reach the European U21 Championship semi-finals.

Di Biagio made it clear he still believed his Azzurrini squad had what it took to progress but confirmed he would reinstate Kean after he was benched against the Poles.

“Belgium are a great team who are strangely on zero points,” he said at a Press conference.

“It won’t be an easy game. I don’t think they’ll give anything away. I know their potential, but we have many solutions, which we’ll carefully evaluate.

“There are a couple of players in particular that I need to evaluate. I’d take us playing like we did in our last game, a team who have 30-35 attempts.

“We need to be more clinical with our finishing, but it doesn’t depend on the number of forwards we play.

“Moise Kean will certainly play. Him aside, we’ll see. We’re confident because, as always, it’s the result that makes the difference.

“Taking our two injured players and the one suspended [Zaniolo] into account, I don’t think I’ll change that much, three players at most, but I still have to wait for us to train again.”

The CT has already overseen a group-stage exit, that coming in 2015…

“I’ve experienced enough of these situations. I must also convey my feelings to the players, but I see in them that they want to play and that’s very important.

“We have an objective, which is to win without relying on what happens elsewhere. This is our most complicated game, but we have no alternative.

“We’ve been here before and we’ll see what happens, but we must first think of getting ahead and then the number of goals we score.”
