Patron Rocco Commisso wants to “see an entertaining Fiorentina team and will put everything into this, not just money.”
The Italian-American billionaire completed the takeover from the Della Valle brothers and flew back to Florence today for meetings with Coach Vincenzo Montella, directors Daniele Pradè and Giancarlo Antognoni.
“The meeting went very well, we planned for this season. I learned something I didn’t know before,” Commisso told FirenzeViola.it as he left the hotel.
“Everyone knows what their job is, although we haven’t defined the titles yet. I don’t know if the first buy will be within weeks or months, but hopefully before the season starts! My dream is to be 20 years old again so I could play in midfield…
“There is a long list of players and a lot of work to do. We inherited a situation where there are 46 players on the books, so we have to whittle that down.
“I hope to see an entertaining Fiorentina team, although I can’t guarantee that. You can expect me to put everything I’ve got into this and not just money. I am passionate about Italy, Italian teams and football has been there throughout my life.
“If it weren’t for my wife being in love with the city of Florence, I might not ever have made this deal. The fans keep asking me when I’m coming back, but I tell them the owners of baseball teams don’t go to every game, yet they still win.”
Commisso was asked about the reports Mario Balotelli was on the Fiorentina radar as a free agent.
“Everyone can just say names, why not Ronaldo, Dybala… Whatever you want to say, you can say it. However, I’ve always said that Federico Chiesa is staying and I won’t change, so stop asking me that and leave the poor boy alone.”
