Roma have officially hired former Torino man Gianluca Petrachi as their new sporting director.

Petrachi’s appointment comes as no surprise, given he has been linked with the role for months and has already begun working for Roma.

The only hold-up had been his release from Torino, but that is now resolved.

“I’m happy to welcome Gianluca to our team,” CEO Guido Fienga told the club’s official website.

“I’m happy to welcome Gianluca to our team,” CEO Guido Fienga told the club’s official website.

“I’m certain that with his expertise, he will represent an important resource within Roma’s management.”

The 50-year-old [pictured, middle] added: “Roma are an ambitious and incredibly-stimulating adventure for me.

“I know well the expectations of such an important club. That’s why I immediately accepted this challenge.”

The ex-Nottingham Forest midfielder spent nine-and-a-half years at Toro, unearthing the likes of Matteo Darmian, Ciro Immobile and Andrea Belotti.

He replaces Monchi, who left in March and has since returned to Sevilla.

The Giallorossi also have a new Coach, bringing in Paulo Fonseca from Ukrainian champions Shakhtar Donetsk.
