Eusebio Di Francesco chose Sampdoria because ‘they really wanted me’ and is promising ‘a bright, lively, competitive’ team.

Di Francesco was linked with the likes of Milan, Sevilla and Fiorentina before being confirmed as Samp’s new Coach last week, and he is ‘very happy’ with his decision.

“The President was tireless with his courtship,” he told the club’s YouTube account.

“in the long run, it was also nice because he really wanted me and feeling wanted is important.

“I’m very happy to have chosen Sampdoria. I can raise young players and I’ve seen great enthusiasm from all the directors.”

The role marks the 49-year-old’s first since leaving Roma in March, and he revealed he had offers to join the Bluerchiati in the past.

“I chose first to stay at Sassuolo and then to have this wonderful experience at Roma.

“Now I’m back in a somewhat smaller city but one that nonetheless has a great history behind it. I’m here because the club really wanted me.”

Finally, he was asked about what Samp fans could expect from their team during his reign.

“We’ll start with a 4-3-3, which can then be changed depending on the situation. I like to give my teams an identity and my way of playing.

“I expect a great improvement as of next season. After that, the games are played and seasons are experienced.

“I want a bright, lively, competitive team. Sampdoria already have those things in their DNA. I just have to work on my ideas.”
