Torino have officially appointed Massimo Bava as their new sporting director, taking the place of Gianluca Petrachi, who joined Roma.

A statement on Torino’s official website explains that Bava, who was the “youth sector manager, will take on the role of sporting director at the club.”

The 56-year-old was born in Turin and after a career in amateur football as a player became a Coach 20 years ago and won promotion in the lower leagues with the likes of Volpiano, Canavese, and Cuneo.

The 56-year-old was born in Turin and after a career in amateur football as a player became a Coach 20 years ago and won promotion in the lower leagues with the likes of Volpiano, Canavese, and Cuneo.

He was head of the youth sector at the Granata since 2012, overseeing six trophies in seven seasons with the Primavera, including the Scudetto, a Coppa Italia, and two Suppercoppa Italian cups as well as two national Berretti titles.

Bava’s work with the youth sides brought players through to the first team like Antonio Barreca who was sold to Monaco for €10m, Kevin Bonifazi, Simone Edera, and Vittorio Parigini among others.
