Palermo seem closer than ever to the abyss after the FIGC’s supervisory committee rejected the validity of their registration documents for Serie B.
Palermo continue to insist they will register for Serie B next season, despite submitting their financial guarantees six days after the deadline.
However, it was confirmed on Thursday that COVISOC considered them inadequate due to ‘the absence of economic-financial criteria needed for obtaining the national license for the purposes of admission to the 2019-20 Serie A championship’.
The committee paid particular attention to the absence of a guarantee, which a Bulgarian insurance broker never issued, and the non-payment of wages to players and sporting debts owed to Lega Serie B and the FIGC, including a €500,000 fine for administrative offences.
Although the Rosanero still intend to appeal by Monday, their case for readmission now appears dead in the water.
Venezia should replace the Sicilians in the second tier, with the relegated side having formally presented their request for reinstatement on Thursday.
