Napoli met with Wanda Nara and Mauro Icardi to offer a €10m per year salary, according to reports, but the Inter striker still prefers Juventus.
The Argentina international is persona non grata at San Siro following the series of rows with the club hierarchy and new Coach Antonio Conte has no intention of playing him.
This tense situation has seen the asking price plummet from €110m a year ago to €60m now.
It would be within Napoli’s financial capabilities, so Sportitalia and the Corriere dello Sport claim President Aurelio De Laurentiis was in contact with Icardi and wife/agent Wanda Nara to propose the €10m per year salary.
The forward is starting to consider a Napoli option, though Juve remain the favourites.
