Milan’s move for Empoli midfielder Ismael Bennacer has suddenly hit serious problems, with reports Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund are back in the race.

The clubs had agreed terms for €16m plus a €1m bonus, but his profile has increased considerably with the Africa Cup of Nations.

“Something’s still missing between his representatives and Milan, but I don’t think it’s anything big,” Empoli President Fabrizio Corsi told Calciomercato.com.

“They’re discussing the final details and I hope everything can be resolved in 24-48 hours. For Bennacer, it’s a great opportunity and he’d be foolish not to take it.”

However, multiple reports this evening claim the negotiations have hit serious issues regarding personal terms and they could see the move collapse entirely.

La Gazzetta dello Sport claim that Milan offered €1.5m per year plus bonuses, but are not prepared to go any higher and are looking towards other objectives.

Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund are now said to be offering better wages and could poach the Algeria international.
