Roma should sign Atalanta defender Gianluca Mancini after giving up on Tottenham Hotspur’s Toby Alderweireld.

Roma paused their pursuit of Mancini to move for Alderweireld, who has a £25m (€27.8m) release clause.

However, that must be paid in full before August and Gianluca Di Marzio reports the Belgian’s contract demands are also excessive.

However, that must be paid in full before August and Gianluca Di Marzio reports the Belgian’s contract demands are also excessive.

Therefore, the Giallorossi should bring in Mancini, with Di Marzio claiming a loan with an obligation to buy for €20m plus bonuses has been agreed.

The 23-year-old played 30 of Atalanta’s 38 Serie A games last season, helping them qualify for the Champions League.

He also has two caps for Italy, playing at right-back as opposed to his usual position in central defence.
