Juventus are the top Italian representatives in fifth place, having spent €868m, although that is bound to climb once Matthijs de Ligt is purchased from Ajax for €70m.

Atletico Madrid follow on €800m, PSG surprisingly only €773m and Real Madrid €755m.

Champions League winners Liverpool are in ninth place with €714m spent, but then there is a drop-off to Roma in 10th on €586m.

It is remarkable considering the Giallorossi’s reputation as a selling club to see they have been the 10th biggest spenders on the transfer market in the last five years.
