Vincenzo Montella confirmed he asked Daniele De Rossi to join Fiorentina, while Federico Chiesa could play against Arsenal in the ICC.

The Coach spoke at a Press conference ahead of tomorrow’s game in the International Champions Cup summer tour of North America.

“We are happy to be in America for this tour, we know President Rocco Commisso really cares about this, so we don’t want to let him down. The President has brought a great deal of enthusiasm and is working to build a good team.

“I think the line-up against Arsenal will be more or less the same side that beat Chivas, then I’ll try to rotate the squad.”

Chiesa was a late addition to the team, having played for Italy in the European Under-21 Championship, but seems to have pledged himself to Fiorentina for this season despite Juventus links.

“I’ll evaluate whether to play him and Nikola Milenkovic against Arsenal. To be honest, Chiesa seems the same as always.”

De Rossi could’ve been a part of this squad after his Roma contract was not renewed, but the veteran is heading towards Boca Juniors instead.

“Daniele didn’t feel ready to play for a different Italian club, even though Fiorentina had been entirely at his disposal. I understand that,” said Montella.

Another free agent, Tottenham Hotspur striker Fernando Llorente, has also been linked with the Viola.

“He is a strong forward, but I trust the directors and will not comment on individual players.”
