Dario Mirri, Tony Di Piazza and Rino Sagramola have been given the mandate to form a new Palermo club in Serie D after the previous side’s bankruptcy.

The club was excluded from Serie B in the 2019-20 season after failing to prove their financial stability and were declared bankrupt.

It means the Sicilian city, in the form of Mayor Leoluca Orlando, had to choose who would be allowed to take the Palermo name and begin again in Serie D.

It means the Sicilian city, in the form of Mayor Leoluca Orlando, had to choose who would be allowed to take the Palermo name and begin again in Serie D.

It is the same process that Parma went through three years ago and they returned to Serie A last term following three consecutive promotions.

There were six different groups who handed in proposals yesterday and Mayor Orlando announced this afternoon that the winning bid was from Mirri, Di Piazza and former Palermo director Rino Sagramola, named Hera Hora srl.

They are all local businessmen eager to keep the Rosanero rooted in their Sicilian environment and who had tried to save the previous iteration of the club from bankruptcy with sponsorship deals a couple of months ago.

Sampdoria President Massimo Ferrero had also made a proposal with his Holding Max company, while Zurich Capital Funds are believed to be representing an Arab Emirates fund based in London.
