Fiorentina fell to another preseason defeat on Wednesday, but Coach Vincenzo Montella maintains he saw ‘so many positives’ from his players.

Fiorentina followed up their 3-0 loss to Arsenal in the Interntional Champions Cup with a 2-1 reverse to Benfica, Caio scoring a 93rd-minute winner for the Portuguese champions.

Nonetheless, Montella said after the game: “I saw so many positives, it was important to impose ourselves in this tournament.

“We played better than we thought we would and the lads gave some very good responses: the result didn’t reflect our performance. We must congratulate the lads.”

Federico Chiesa appeared as a second-half substitute, amidst continued speculation about his future.

“I have a great relationship with him. He’s embarking on a journey and it’s not easy for him.

“I only have dealings with my players as a Coach.”
