Milan striker Krzysztof Piatek says ‘I was born to score goals’ as he looks to prove he is no one-season wonder.
Piatek was the find of the season in 2018-19, scoring 30 goals in just 42 appearances for Genoa and Milan, and the Pole is again setting the bar high.
“I always expected to score lots of goals,” the 24-year-old told ESPN.
“I’m really happy that I scored a lot of goals in Serie A and I always believed in myself. It’s great.
“I was born to score goals and I know Serie A is very difficult to score goals in, but when I came to Genoa and I wanted to show something great.
“When I came to Italy, everyone called strikers ‘bombers’. ‘Bum bum’ is like bomber so I made the celebration and everyone went crazy!
“I think it will be great. I hope we’ll play with two strikers. We have time to train and for the Coach to explain how we must play. We’ll play good football this season.
“I’m not thinking about objectives. What’s important is working hard in training and preseason so I have a great season.
“I’m not nervous. I’m focused on my challenge, I always want to score and I hope this season will be the same.
“For me, the Milan fans are great and I feel better now. I have more confidence at the stadium and I want to have a great season for them.
“All the defenders have good traits in Italy, but for me anything is possible in football, you can do well against any player and last season I showed everything on the pitch.
“It was crazy after I scored a lot of goals in Italy, it was the same with the national team and I hope we qualify for the Euros next year.
“When I was young I looked up to so many strikers. One of the best is Cristiano Ronaldo, the second was Thierry Henry.
“When I look at the best strikers, I want to take something great from them and I watch how they play on the pitch.
“I hope I have the same form as last season and score a lot of goals. Everything must be good with the team and I hope we reach the Champions League.”
