Napoli boss Carlo Ancelotti declares Lorenzo Insigne is ‘back’, Jose Callejon is an option for central midfield and ‘we’re not interested’ in Kieran Tierney.
Insigne scored and assisted twice during Napoli’s 3-0 victory over Liverpool on Sunday, with Callejon playing as one half of a midfield double pivot.
“Icardi’s an Inter player. Now I’m thinking about Milik who scored or Mertens who had a super match,” Ancelotti said after the game.
“Milik’s still a bit behind and out of shape compared to the others, but that’s also because of his physical structure.
“In an attacking sense, Insigne must take the initiative like he did against Liverpool. I have to congratulate Mertens and Insigne for their defensive work. They did a crucial job.
“Lorenzo looked like the Lorenzo before his problems last season. Now he’s bac2k. This Insigne is crucial for us when he plays like this.
“For us, Callejon’s a resource. He always does everything with a manic level of application, so he can also play as a central midfielder.
“I tried him in the position for 15 minutes, but it was as if he’d been playing there for 15 years.”
However, the Coach distanced the Partenopei from Celtic left-back Tierney, while confirming Mario Rui would be staying.
“The club have the desire to make a big signing. We’re focusing on the likeliest options and there are several very interesting ones.
“I know Tierney’s a great player. He’s a young and strong full-back. I can tell you that we’re looking at several players, but we already have two good left-backs in Ghoulam and Mario Rui. We’re not interested in him.”
