Napoli are turning their attention towards RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner, whose contract is set to expire soon, but has an odd clause.

The 23-year-old German international is only under contract until June 2020 and last season scored 19 goals with 10 assists in 37 games for the club.

CEO Oliver Mintzlaff confirmed to Sky Sport Germany in April that they had offered an extension, but “he signalled to us that he would rather not” sign a new deal.

According to Radio Marte, Werner is the latest name on the Napoli wish-list after Mauro Icardi and James Rodriguez.

It’s suggested there is a €70m release clause in his contract, but that it is only valid for 10 clubs: Juventus, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain.

As Napoli are not on the list, they would need to negotiate directly with RB Leipzig.

Werner is a German international with 10 goals in 25 senior caps.
