Inter are taking a hard-line stance on Mauro Icardi, reportedly threatening to keep him out for two years if he doesn’t accept a transfer.

The striker is under contract until June 2021 and has turned down every option, including Napoli and Roma, because he is determined he’ll either remain at San Siro or join Juventus.

Despite being told in no uncertain terms that he is not part of their plans, Icardi continues to barricade the exit.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport and Corriere dello Sport this morning, Inter are taking it to the next level and threatening the Argentine with up to two years in the stands.

There is always the risk of the player suing for ‘mobbing’ – bullying in the workplace – but they could get around that by keeping his name on the squad list, even if he is never actually picked.

That would be incredibly damaging to the club, because not only would they continue paying his salary, but he’d also take up a valuable spot in the Serie A and Champions League squad lists that could be used by another available striker.

Meanwhile, there are reports Inter still have hope they can resolve everyone’s issues by exchanging Icardi with Juventus striker Paulo Dybala towards the end of August.

That’s because Dybala is resisting a move to Manchester United in a swap with Romelu Lukaku.

It's an extraordinary situation considering only six months ago Icardi was Inter's captain and undoubted star player.
