Real Madrid have reportedly agreed to send James Rodriguez to Napoli on loan with option to buy if they can’t complete a €42m sale by August 15.

The news comes from La Repubblica and the Corriere dello Sport newspapers, after Fenerbahce saw their approach shot down immediately by the player.

Atletico Madrid are also beginning to realise James has his heart set on Napoli and are pulling back on their offer, particularly as Real Madrid do not want to reinforce a direct Liga rival.

It’s reported the Partenopei have a gentleman’s agreement with Real Madrid that they can take him on loan with option to buy if a more advantageous deal has not been struck.

The deadline was originally August 22, but seems to have been brought forward to August 15.

Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis would not pay €42m outright because James just returned from a two-year loan with option to buy at Bayern Munich.
