Borussia Dortmund have disciplined two commentators on their official streaming service for offensive anti-Italian statements during a friendly with Udinese.
After fans protested at the coverage on their BVB.tv service, the club told reporters that BVB stadium speaker Norbert Dickel and former player Patrick Owomoyela had “gone over the line.
“Their attempt to be funny went completely wrong and was absolutely out of place. Both parties have already acknowledged their wrongdoing and pledged this will not be repeated. They have been sanctioned.”
The game with Udinese saw them repeatedly refer to Italians as ‘Itaker’ – an insulting German term – mocked them as ‘pasta eaters’ and even did an Adolf Hitler impression, as reported by news agency Ansa.
