Atalanta are close to signing former Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel on a free transfer.
ANSA reports Skrtel is ‘on the verge’ of joining Atalanta after successful talks between his agent Karol Csonto and club officials yesterday.
Consequently, a deal looks like going through by the weekend.
The 34-year-old is currently without a club after leaving Turkish side Fenerbahce, where he spent the past three seasons.
The former Slovakia captain is best known for his spell at Liverpool, making over 300 appearances for the Reds between 2008 and 2016.
He would fit the bill for the Champions League debutants, who had been looking for a centre-back with international experience.
