Vincenzo Montella was pleased with Fiorentina’s ‘commitment and spirit’ after they thrashed Turkish champions Galatasaray 4-1 on Sunday.

Fiorentina made it back-to-back wins for the first time since Montella’s return in April, with new signing Kevin-Prince Boateng among those on the scoresheet.

“We played well tonight. August football is never proper, but we did well,” the Coach said after the game.

“Sottil’s working hard, but there’s no need to put pressure on him. I hope the fans have fun for the support they’re giving us.

“Badelj and Pulgar are similar players and you have to be organised. Their impact doesn’t change if you move them a few yards away.

“Pezzella is banned and I wanted the centre-back pairing that’ll play in the Coppa Italia to play.

“As for Chiesa, I wanted to see the two young lads Sottil and Montiel. Ranieri was lively, focused and enterprising. He wants to do well.”

Awaiting the Viola in the Coppa Italia third round are Silvio Berlusconi’s Monza, who surprised Serie B side Benevento with a 4-3 win.

“I’m happy to face Brocchi and see Galliani, with whom I shared an experience,” added the former Milan boss.

“There’s always something wrong. Maybe we lacked a few more goals, but we’ll work on it because it’s a crucial aspect, which can change the outcome of a game, but I’m happy with the commitment and spirit we played with, in addition to the result.

“It’s an important foundation on which to start over.”
