Cagliari new boy Nahitan Nandez says there is no reason why his new team ‘can’t dream’ after being unveiled as their new No 18.
Nandez is the latest Uruguayan to join Cagliari after the likes of Oscar Tabarez, Fabian O’Neill and Dario Silva, with the former Boca Juniors midfielder taking the shirt number previously worn by fan favourite Nicolo Barella.
“I had the chance to talk and wave off De Rossi,” began the 23-year-old.
“He told me I was moving to a competitive League and a beautiful city. Now I’ve touched it first hand.
“I was immediately optimistic and positive about joining Cagliari. As of tomorrow I’ll start getting to know my teammates and I’ll talk to them.
“I received so many offers, but I chose Cagliari with my represetnatives. We have a good team so why can’t we dream?
“I chose the No 18 shirt because it was my first number. I feel ready. Until a few weeks ago I was playing in the Copa Libertadores. Now I want to integrate so I can be ready.
“I can play different roles in midfield. At Boca I played through the middle, while for the national team I played out wide. I have a lot of strength and determination.
“I listened to Tabarez’s advice. He told me about the team and the city. I haven’t played here yet, but I was given an incredible welcome. I didn’t expect this passion.
“I know that many Uruguayan’s have done well here. I also want to be remembered by the fans.
“The objective is survival, but my teammates are strong. That raises the bar. We want to be a tough team to face.”
