Roma have officially sent midfielder Steven Nzonzi to Turkish champions Galatasaray on loan with an option to buy.
In a complex set of conditions, a statement on Roma’s website confirmed the following:
- Galatasaray have the option to make Nzonzi’s loan permanent for €16m, providing it is exercised before June 30 next year.
- They also have the option to extend the loan for a further 12 months for a fee of €500,000.
- If that option is activated, the club can make the arrangement permanent, prior to its conclusion at the end of June 2021, for a fee of €13m.
The 30-year-old helped France win the World Cup last summer and subsequently moved to the Olimpico in a €26.65m deal, following then-sporting director Monchi from Sevilla.
Despite making 39 appearances in all competitions, he failed to truly impose himself on the Giallorossi’s engine room.
