The 20-year-old signed a new and improved contract this week, which now runs to June 2024, staving off interest from Juventus.

“Staying here is what I wanted,” the former Inter youth player told Roma TV.
“We worked with my agent and the club for the future and I am very happy with this contract renewal. As soon as I signed the paperwork, the directors told me to keep my head on my shoulders, because it’s very important to do well this year.
“I thought to myself, now it gets serious, I have to set the example as a professional both on and off the field. Last season I tried to do my best and was fortunate to find my room to shine. It’ll be the same this year.
“It wasn’t easy with all the pressure on my shoulders, but this is the life of a football player, it has pros and cons. I hope to continue playing well and making the fans happy.”
Although there were reports of Juventus interest, along with potentially going abroad to Paris Saint-Germain, Tottenham or even Real Madrid, Zaniolo insists that was never part of the plan.
“It didn’t even enter my head that I could leave Roma, as I am in love with the city and these fans.”
In his debut campaign, Zaniolo worked with Eusebio Di Francesco and Claudio Ranieri, while his current Coach is Paulo Fonseca.
“I am on the right track and trying to work on my weaknesses, such as my timing and positioning. I really like the Coach, as in my view he is very much suited to this squad. The training sessions are intensive and hard work.
“We are happy and enthusiastic to be starting this new season and we hope to begin on the right foot in front of our fans.”
