Lasse Schone scored his first goal for Genoa as the Grifone swept Imolese aside 4-1 in their Third Round Coppa Italia tie.
The Rossoblu start from the Third Round, which will be played this weekend in a series of one-off knockout clashes.
It was Genoa’s first competitive game of the season played at the Stadio Comunale in Chiavari against Serie C outfit Imolese.
Mimmo Criscito kept his cool to convert a penalty awarded in the opening minute for handball.
Riccardo Saponara nodded in from close range to double their lead, but then went off injured during the first half.
Christian Kouame helped set up Paolo Ghiglione for the third goal by half-time.
Imolese pulled one back with a brave diving header from Alimi, but former Ajax midfielder Schone topped off an excellent personal performance with a goal, curling in one of his trademark free kicks.
Andrea Pinamonti also rattled the woodwork, but the 4-1 result proved enough and Genoa will face Ascoli or Trapani in the Fourth Round.
