Fiorentina and Vincenzo Montella are pushing to be reunited with Nikola Kalinic, claim reports, with Atletico Madrid happy to oblige.
According to the Corriere dello Sport, there could be a surprise comeback to the Stadio Franchi for the Croatia international.
Now 31, he had the most prolific period of his career in Florence, scoring 33 goals with 10 assists in 84 competitive games from 2015-17.
Ever since following Montella to Milan for €30m in 2017 and then moving to Atletico Madrid for €14.5m last summer, he has flopped badly, scoring a combined 10 goals in 65 appearances for the two clubs.
Montella has never disguised his admiration for Kalinic and he would gladly work with the forward again.
The Tuscans would try to get him on loan with an option to buy, although his price-tag continues to drop with every season.
An alternative is free agent Fernando Llorente, who is asking for a three-year contract, despite already being 34.
