Ever since following Montella to Milan for €30m in 2017 and then moving to Atletico Madrid for €14.5m last summer, he has flopped badly, scoring a combined 10 goals in 65 appearances for the two clubs.

Montella has never disguised his admiration for Kalinic and he would gladly work with the forward again.

The Tuscans would try to get him on loan with an option to buy, although his price-tag continues to drop with every season.

An alternative is free agent Fernando Llorente, who is asking for a three-year contract, despite already being 34.
