Kevin-Prince Boateng reveals he chose Fiorentina because “Serie A is better than the Bundesliga” and Federico Chiesa “can become the best player in the world.”

The Ghanaian gave a long interview to La Nazione newspaper after choosing a return to Serie A in Florence, following his six-month loan spell at Barcelona.

“I had an offer from Eintracht Frankfurt too, but I think this season the level in Serie A is superior to the Bundesliga. There are at least 10 clubs that can challenge to enter Europe and I’d add Cagliari in there too.

“It’s going to be an entertaining Serie A campaign and that is one of the reasons why I decided to remain.”

There was another very important reason, as Boateng reconciled with his wife Melissa Satta after a brief break-up.

“I am also here thanks to Melissa and she had an important role in choosing Florence. She is in love with the city and knows it well, so she was cheering on this solution.

“I am 32 years old now and I feel in good shape. I like the idea of playing as a ‘False 9’ and have been considered a bit of a Joker in the pack for years now. It can be an advantage, but also damaging to change role all the time.

“Nobody knows that after Milan, I had the opportunity to join Manchester United, but Sir Alex Ferguson asked himself: what position am I meant to play him in?

“I was a jack of all trades in his view and master of none. The transfer was abandoned and I started to focus on being more specific in my approach.”

Boateng is immensely impressed with his new Fiorentina teammate Chiesa, as the club resisted approaches from Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain.

“I have never seen such a good player dress so badly. I have to take Federico shopping! As for the rest, Mamma Mia, he’s extraordinary. Believe me, Chiesa is on another level.

“He has it all: technique, strength, pace, tenacity, a good shot, dribbling skills. If he keeps the right mentality, he can become one of the three-four best players in the world, perhaps even the best.

“Honestly, at this stage, he’s the only one who can get in his own way. At this level, the mind makes all the difference, because everyone has talent, but if Federico decides to become the best in the world, he can do it.

“That is the first time I’ve ever said that about a teammate.”
