Paulo Dybala sent a message to Juventus with a stunning goal and pointed celebration, but also saw a penalty saved in a 1-0 win at Triestina.
Cristiano Ronaldo and Coach Maurizio Sarri didn’t make the trip to the Stadio Nereo Rocco in Trieste, as the star had a muscular issue and the tactician still suffering from flu. It was therefore used as an opportunity to experiment with Dybala as a False 9.
Danilo’s taut cross from the right almost prompted an own goal as desperate defending prevented a Dybala tap-in, then Douglas Costa’s curler was beaten away.
The Triestina goalkeeper flew to fingertip a Dybala swerving strike out from under the bar, but Danilo and Federico Bernardeschi were struggling to understand each other down the right flank.
Juve broke the deadlock with a simply extraordinary piece of magic from Dybala. La Joya sent a message to the club that he doesn’t want to leave, as he twisted and turned with a dummy to confuse defenders, then placed a delightful lob into the net from just inside the area, celebrating by patting the badge on his jersey and pointing to the name on the back.
Douglas Costa came flying down the left and his angled drive flashed across the face of goal to skim the far post.
A long-range Sami Khedira screamer was deflected, forcing a tricky save, then Bernardeschi’s poor first touch still enabled him to earn a penalty, as Daniel Offredi rushed out to trip him.
However, Offredi made up for the error with a fantastic save to keep out Dybala’s penalty at the near post.
Triestina started to get a foothold in the game after that and Wojciech Szczesny had to make a very difficult save on Tommaso Coletti’s ferocious volley.
Aaron Ramsey made his Juventus debut, coming on for the final 20 minutes, and Emre Can fired wide when Gonzalo Higuain had been trying to set it up.
Higuain stung Offredi’s gloves with a powerful finish after the smart one-two with Ramsey, but Triestina rattled the underside of the bar with a magnificent turn and shot from the tightest of angles by Andrea Ferretti.
Davis Mensah wreaked havoc down the left and set up Demetrio Steffè to sting Wojciech Szczesny’s gloves.
