Denis Vavro “didn’t hesitate for a moment” when offered the Lazio contract and models himself on Martin Skrtel or Giorgio Chiellini.
The Slovakia international was signed from FC Copenhagen for €11m and was presented to the media in today’s Press conference.
“I am fired up and happy going into my Serie A debut on Sunday, as we hope to get a victory against Sampdoria,” said the defender.
“I have a long contract with Lazio and want to get off to a positive start, so I can prove myself. Lazio are a very strong and ambitious squad, so I chose this move because it’s a great club.
“It’s true, Roma had shown interest as well, but as soon as I heard about the Biancocelesti interest, I didn’t hesitate for a moment. The only slight obstacle at the start this summer was the language barrier, but so far I’ve adapted well.
“My idol is Martin Skrtel, while in Serie A I very much appreciate Giorgio Chiellini. I’ve already spoken to Milan Skriniar, a player I admire a great deal. He told me this is very different to Danish football, quicker and with short passes, so I am very happy and can’t wait.
“I like to defend and attack, it doesn’t matter if in a three-man defence or four. I am learning Simone Inzaghi’s tactics and ready to start the season.
“Inzaghi often speaks to me in Italian, hoping to get me accustomed to it and up to speed. I watch back recordings of my own training sessions every day to improve.”
