Inter have confirmed that Mauro Icardi is in their Serie A squad this season and will wear the No 7.
Icardi was previously Inter’s No 9 and captain, but he was stripped of the armband midway through last season.
The situation threatened to unravel, amidst reports the Nerazzurri would force the Argentine to run down his contract without playing if he did not agree to a move away.

The situation threatened to unravel, amidst reports the Nerazzurri would force the Argentine to run down his contract without playing if he did not agree to a move away.
However, with the Beneamata refusing to entertain the idea of selling the 26-year-old to Juventus – his preferred destination – they have now moved to reintegrate him so they cannot be accused of mistreating him.
He will also train with the first team this evening, ahead of Sunday’s Serie A opener against Lecce, although he is not expected to be in the matchday squad.
The No 9 has since been taken by Romelu Lukaku, although Icardi’s decision to wear No 7 casts more doubt on the arrival of Alexis Sanchez.
Sanchez was expected to get 7 if he joined Inter, but the protracted nature of his move has let his South American swoop in for the number.
It now remains to be seen if Maurito will willingly pass the number on to the Manchester United attacker.
As for the other new faces in the blue half of San Siro, Diego Godin gets No 2, Stefano Sensi 12, Valentino Lazaro 19, Nicolo Barella 27 and Lucien Agoume 32.
Despite being linked with exits, Federico Dimarco is assigned No 11, Joao Mario No 15, Dalbert 29 and Alessandro Bastoni 95.
