Chiellini: 'Sarri changing Juve DNA'

Giorgio Chiellini admits Maurizio Sarri is asking Juventus to “change some of our DNA,” while advising Paulo Dybala to think of the team.

The captain scored their only goal in a 1-0 victory away to Parma, but there were no new signings in the starting XI, as Gonzalo Higuain returned from loan spells at Milan and Chelsea.

“We are happy with the result and the way we approached the game, even if it’ll get easier once our fitness levels improve,” Chiellini told Sky Sport Italia.

Sarri was left behind in Turin to continue treatment for pneumonia and has been following their training sessions remotely via videolink too.

“I believe we miss him more during the week in training than with 90 minutes on the bench, as that makes only a small difference.

“I think the Coach can be proud, because the team showed it is united, trains with dedication and application. We will get better, but the important thing is that we keep winning while we get there.”

There was precious little of Sarri’s style of football on show at the Tardini, as Juventus are taking time to adapt from Antonio Conte and Max Allegri’s more defensive approaches.

“This team has great champions, there have been a lot of changes and we wanted to raise the bar, trying to change some of our DNA, but maintaining certain bedrocks of our daily work that must be at the foundation of every principle of football.

“We work with enthusiasm and the desire to adapt in order to achieve results.”

It was a surprise that Higuain was in the starting line-up rather than Dybala, who didn’t even come off the bench as a substitute.

“Paulo has always trained well. Obviously, nobody is happy when they don’t play, but our bench is full of champions and big names,” noted Chiellini.

“The group always has to move in the same direction, we must give our all even when we don’t play and Paulo knows that well.”
