“Inter were built to achieve important objectives, with a great Coach like Antonio Conte and a team ready to challenge for a place in Europe’s top 10,” said Liverani in his Press conference.

“They want to be on top, but they too are at the start of their journey and have made many changes over the summer. We’ll see if they are ready to challenge immediately.”

Lecce were promoted as Serie B runners-up to Brescia last season and already played one competitive game, last week’s Coppa Italia 4-0 thrashing of Salernitana.

“We have recovered a few players, but they don’t have 90 minutes in them. Much like the Coppa Italia, we can’t maintain that high a tempo throughout the entire game, but that doesn’t mean we’ll lose our identity.

“Football is about your performance and that of the opposition, so we will try to control the tempo, but it won’t always be possible.

“We’re still trying to figure out how our campaign will go and I think we probably won’t really know until Week 1. We want to achieve our objective of Serie A safety with our identity intact.

“It’s important to maintain balance over these 38 stages to win our Scudetto, which is Serie A safety. My lads must understand that games like tomorrow, even with all the difficulties involved, cannot sap our enthusiasm.”
