Eusebio Di Francesco has mutated the Blucerchiati into his usual 4-3-3 formation, but has to wait for news from his medical staff before picking the starting XI.

Jakub Jankto and Gaston Ramirez are both carrying injuries and require fitness tests before they can be given the all-clear.

If Ramirez doesn’t make it, then Manolo Gabbiadini is likely to start with Fabio Quagliarella and Gianluca Caprari.

Fabio Depaoli is suspended, while summer signing Gonzalo Maroni is out after he was stretchered off with a sprained ankle in the Coppa Italia last week.

Lazio miss Jordan Lukaku, Wallace and Jony Rodriguez, as the new signing still doesn’t have his international transfer through following a dispute with Malaga.

Luiz Felipe and Denis Vavro are tussling for a place in defence, and that could well be the only summer arrival in the starting XI.

It depends on whether Lazio are prepared to risk Manuel Lazzari just days after surgery to stabilise a fractured metacarpal bone in his hand.

Lazzari broke his wrist a couple of years ago and played with a protective cast for four months, so assured in a Press conference that he had no problem continuing in those conditions.

Felipe Caicedo and Lucas Leiva are not fully fit, but did take part in training and are included in Simone Inzaghi’s squad.

This could be a special night for Ciro Immobile, who currently has 99 Serie A goals under his belt.

Probable line-ups

Sampdoria: Audero; Bereszynski, Murillo, Colley, Murru; Linetty, Ekdal, Jankto/Vieira; Ramirez, Quagliarella, Caprari

Lazio: Strakosha; Vavro/Luiz Felipe, Acerbi, Radu; Lazzari, Milinkovic-Savic, Parolo, Luis Alberto, Lulic; Correa, Immobile
