Cagliari have officially signed Fiorentina striker Giovanni Simeone on loan with obligation to buy but have lost Leonardo Pavoletti to a serious knee injury.
Cagliari deposited Simeone’s contract with Lega Serie A on Friday, having committed to purchasing the Argentine next summer for €16m.
The 24-year-old joined Fiorentina from Genoa in the summer of 2017 for €17m and scored 22 goals in two seasons, although he managed just six in Serie A last term.
He will replace Pavoletti for at least a few months after tests found the Italy hitman to have injured the ACL and meniscus in his right knee.
The 30-year-old was stretchered off just before half-time during the Sardinians’ 1-0 defeat to Bologna in their Serie A opener last weekend.
Simeone has big boots to fill, given that his fellow forward netted 18 times for the Rossoblu during the previous campaign.
