Marotta: 'Clear and calm with Icardi'

Inter director Beppe Marotta insists they will “face this situation with the same calm and clarity” after Mauro Icardi sued the club.

“I expect something positive and am sure we’ll put in a fine performance, following on from the great victory over Lecce,” the director general told Sky Sport Italia.

Marotta was asked how Inter reacted when Icardi took legal action against the club, demanding €1.5m in damages and a return to their full training sessions.

“We were very clear before and are clear today. We will face this situation with the same calm as before, but it is right to give space to the players who will take to the field this evening, the fans and Coach, because we are up against a tough opponent like Cagliari and must remain concentrated.

“It’s not an issue of resolving it, it is dealing with an ordinary situation in football with the utmost calm and transparency. When the transfer market closes, we will be even more explicit and clear in dealing with this situation.”

There are reports on Sky Sport Italia this evening that Paris Saint-Germain have asked to take Icardi on loan.

As his contract won’t expire until June 2021, there is the risk of losing him on a free transfer, so Inter want him to extend his contract by one year before going on loan.

The transfer deadline in Italy and France is on Monday evening.
