Eusebio Di Francesco was furious and “very disappointed” after another heavy Sampdoria defeat. “Emiliano Rigoni is not enough, we need reinforcements.”
The Blucerchiati have been disastrous so far this season, losing 3-0 at home to Lazio and 4-1 at Sassuolo.
“We disappeared after the opening goal, which is incredible, because we played so well in the first half-hour and should’ve been in front,” said the former Roma Coach in his Press conference.
“I am always honest and don’t see the performance up until then being so negative, but the second half was embarrassing and Domenico Berardi was decisive for Sassuolo.
“We could’ve been sharper, but the goal transformed the game. This is a team that gets shaken very easily and we are doing a lot of work psychologically, but clearly there needs to be even more. I am a little worried looking at the two games so far, because we cannot keep just disappearing from the match when something goes wrong.
“This cannot be the team that we are. We have work to do. It’s always important to be pessimistic when defending and optimistic when attacking.”
Di Francesco has complained all summer at the lack of reinforcements and with the transfer deadline on Monday evening, the situation is becoming desperate.
Rigoni is expected to arrive on loan with obligation to buy from Zenit St Petersburg in a deal worth €10m.
“Rigoni alone is not enough. My requests to the club have gone to other areas of the squad too. I am disappointed and feel let down. I want to fight in order to improve this situation, but it’s not easy.
“I feel furious about all sorts of things right now. I’ll evaluate the situation once the transfer market has shut, but we need reinforcements in attack and, looking at these two games, in every area of the team.
“I am not satisfied, in general.”
