Icardi finally left Inter on deadline day, joining PSG on loan with a reported €70m option to buy, and the striker is ready to make up for lost time in the French capital.

“I’m very happy. It’s a great challenge to play for a club like PSG,” he told his new club’s TV channel.

“This is a big step forward in my career and I hope to experience great things here. Playing with great players is a challenge.

“I’m very happy to have the opportunity to play at such a high level, and signing with PSG gives me a great opportunity, thanks to the players who are already there.

“I know all the Argentines and Cavani. I also know Neymar. It’s a special feeling to know that I’ll be playing alongside them.

“I’m here to win trophies. PSG are a dominant team in France and have won many trophies in the last few seasons.

“There are so many good teams in Ligue 1, but the fans want to see the best on the field so we can win more trophies.

“I hope I can contribute to the club’s future success by scoring many goals. I’m a penalty-box striker, I like scoring and it’s my strong point.

“This team have many talented players, many of them play up front and want to score goals or assist then. I'm sure I’ll find myself perfectly here.

“Serie A has a reputation for being very defensive, which makes it difficult to score. I can’t wait to play in Ligue 1 and learn, as well as starting the new challenge facing me.”

The 26-year-old then explained to Eleven Sports why he chose the Parisians’ offer, despite proposals to stay in Serie A from the likes of Napoli and Roma.

“I’m very happy because it gives me great satisfaction to play for a team like PSG,” he continued.

“It’s a great opportunity for me and my career, and I hope to do my best. Playing in a top team with PSG’s great players is a great challenge.

“It’s a great opportunity for me to be able to stay in football at the highest levels. That was crucial when PSG contacted me and I decided to accept their offer.”
