Alexis Sanchez says he joined Inter because they share his desire to ‘win lots of trophies’.

Sanchez failed to win any silverware at Manchester United but remains one of Serie A’s most successful exports, having lifted two Copa Americas with Chile, League titles in South America, six trophies with Barcelona and two FA Cups with Arsenal.

“I still have the same desire to win and love for the game. I love this game and I want to be happy,” he told Inter TV.

“I’m delighted to be here and there are good players here. It’s a good squad and I also know Lukaku from United.

“I’m here to fight for trophies. The Premier League is physical, box to box as they say! You run a lot and the players are strong.

“Intensity is the right word, I would say. You can see that and I liked that aspect in England.

“That could be [why English sides are successful in Europe]. It’s a very different style of football to in Italy or Spain. I’ve experienced it all.”

The forward is reunited with several of his former teammates at San Siro, including Kwadwo Asamoah, Samir Handanovic and Romelu Lukaku.

“Asamoah is a good lad. He didn’t say much but I’ve found him chattier! He’s a nice guy and I’m pleased he’s doing well.

“Handanovic is a leader. He has his say before the match. He encourages you and that’s good for the group.

“That’s important and I know Lukaku too from Manchester. We chat a lot, we hang out and have dinner together.

“It’s great, he’s a mate. I also know Candreva as we spent some time together at Udinese.

“I want do well and want to win trophies here. We have to fight for silverware. The key thing is team spirit as that makes the difference.

“If we’re all united then we can win lots of trophies.”

The draw for the Champions League group stage also sees the Beneamata paired with one of the 30-year-old’s old clubs…

“It’s always special to play Barcelona. I won lots of trophies there and had great teammates.

“It’s going to be a very hard game, but I have faith in this Inter side. We have the players to win and we’ll battle.

“Everyone will give their all. We want to go as far as possible. I want to win.”
