Fabian has grown into Marek Hamsik’s heir since joining Napoli from Real Betis for €30m last summer, although he could not prevent a 4-3 defeat to Juventus at the weekend.

“Naples is a big city and everyone supports the team,” the 23-year-old told Marca.

“You can see it every day on the streets. Neapolitans love Napoli and football.

“For them, the team are everything and it’s crucial for us to have them close to us.

“We managed to come back from 3-0 down, so it’s a shame. It’s really bad to lose this way.

“We’re close to Koulibaly because we know how important he is for us and he always gives his all on the field.”

The Spaniard was linked with moves to Barcelona and Real Madrid over the summer, but he revealed he was ready to renew his contract.

“The club and my representatives are negotiating and I hope an agreement is reached soon.

“I’ve been very happy since I got here. Napoli made me feel welcome and have always treated me well.

“It’s nice to be linked to big clubs, but I still have four years left on my contract with Napoli and I’m happy.

“Ancelotti also gives you the confidence that all players want.”
