Duvan Zapata believes Atalanta can “do even better” than last season and their Champions League group draw was “softer than we thought it’d be.”

The Orobici had their best ever season, finishing third in Serie A to reach the Champions League for the first time and getting the silver medal in the Coppa Italia Final against Lazio.

“I am not interested in being Capocannoniere, as long as I get more goals than I did last season,” the Colombian told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I am not interested in being Capocannoniere, as long as I get more goals than I did last season,” the Colombian told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Every year, I’ve tended to improve my tally, so this cannot be the exception to that rule. We must all push to do even better, albeit aware it’ll be difficult just to repeat what we achieved last term.”

Atalanta will be up against Manchester City, Dinamo Zagreb and Shakhtar Donetsk in Group C.

“To be honest, the Champions League draw proved much softer than we thought it would be. We’ve got to play every game to the max so that we avoid having regrets at the end. Let’s also not forget that the priority must be with Serie A, where we want to get some consistency.”

Duvan Zapata and Luis Muriel combined for Colombia in their 2-2 friendly draw with Brazil last night.

“When we were teammates at Sampdoria, I thought we would meet again elsewhere, and that’s what happened.”
