New signing Edoardo Goldaniga reveals he “had other offers, but I wanted to join Genoa at all costs” due to a series of family events.
The defender completed the transfer from Sassuolo on deadline day, on loan for €1m with option to buy for a further €3m.
“I always hoped to become a Genoa player,” he told the Secolo XIX newspaper.
“There were other offers and I could’ve stayed at Sassuolo, but I wanted to join Genoa at all costs for the club, the environment, the Coach and the squad.”
Goldaniga also revealed other reasons for having his heart set on Genoa, with a series of family coincidences.
His grandfather Giacinto Goldaniga wore the Genoa jersey in the 1952-53 season.
Edoardo’s first Serie A goal was scored in December 2016 for Palermo against Genoa (pictured), an extremely emotional moment, as it happened just days after losing his father in a car crash.
There’s more, as Edoardo’s girlfriend is Marta Cerci, the sister of former Rossoblu winger Alessio Cerci.
