Alessandro Florenzi was happy to take on yet another new role for Italy against Finland. “We’re enjoying our football and that hasn’t happened in a long time.”

The Roma captain was meant to be rested for last night’s Euro 2020 qualifier after playing right-back in the 3-1 victory in Armenia on Thursday.

However, after just eight minutes he had to replace injured Emerson Palmieri and go into the left-back slot in Tampere.

“I am always at the disposal of the Coach and team, it doesn’t really change my approach. It was quite easy to settle into the new role,” Florenzi told Tuttomercatoweb.

The Azzurri have now won all six Euro 2020 qualifiers after the 2-1 win in Finland last night, going six points clear at the top of Group J.

“We put in a great performance and I am above all happy with the way we played. The result was a little tight, considering the number of chances we had, but more than anything we’re enjoying our football and that hasn’t happened in a long time.

“It’s always more fun to run when you’ve got the ball. With such an attacking approach, we’re inevitably going to allow some counter-attacks, so when we give the ball away cheaply, we concede goals like the Armenia and Finland ones.

“We’ve got to lower our percentage of misplaced passes to avoid that happening more often.”
