“I wanted to go back to Italy, but a phone call with Sinisa Mihajlovic was what clinched my decision to join Bologna,” said the former Inter midfielder at a Press conference.

“I didn’t expect to debut against SPAL, I only had two training sessions in my legs. My family and I love Italy.

“I expressly wanted to stay back so I could train with my new team to fit in better. I called the Chile CT and I told him.

“We have a good team here and there are also some good youngsters that I can mentor.

“Palacio’s a very nice guy and a friend of mine: he called me before I came here, telling me everything about the club.

“This is a beautiful city with respectful and pleasant people. We’re working well and we want to finish as high as possible.

“Europe may not be easy, but you have to try.”

The 32-year-old may have to cover at centre-back against Brescia this weekend following an injury to Danilo…

“I’m ready for anything.”
