Lorenzo Pellegrini has revealed he likes the "freedom" of playing as a No 10 and that Roma "aren’t setting any limits" this season.

Pellegrini has grown into one of Roma’s ‘senatori’ following the exits of Francesco Totti and Daniele De Rossi, despite only turning 23 in June.

The midfielder has started the season in a 4-2-3-1 double pivot but could be pushed into the berth behind Edin Dzeko against Sassuolo on Sunday.

“I like to feel free on the pitch,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“I like to feel free on the pitch,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“I try to make myself available and take things from other players in different positions.

“I try to be attentive so I can be useful in any role. I’m trying to improve as a winger but also as a central midfielder.

“I like being versatile because I can make life difficult for my Coach, since I can play in more positions.”

The Italy international will be facing his former club this weekend…

“We have to come away with the three points. It’s crucial because we play at home in front of our fans, so their contribution will be important.

“Sassuolo was a wonderful experience. I’m connected to the city and my old teammates there.

“It’s always exciting to play against them, but I’m only thinking about winning. We’re working to improve.

“Fonseca asks us to play with the ball, to keep the ball. It’s important to impose ourselves the way we want to.

“By controlling the game, you never submit yourself to the other team. I like that a lot. It’s time to show what we’re doing in training and it’s time to start winning.

“The new players can give us a lot of experience and quality. They’re excellent players who can be very useful for us.

“They’re great with experience, and they can give that little bit extra to us youngsters so we can make the difference.

“I’m glad that we have lunch together. It lets us create unity off the field, which is very important.

“It’s obvious that we’re not setting ourselves any objectives this season. We want to improve and I see it in all our training sessions.

“It’s fair to say that this Roma must play the Champions League. That’s our primary objective.

“We aren’t setting any limits. Ambition is crucial for a player and an important team like Roma.”
